Media

Media Studies is only available in Upper School as an option subject from Year 9 onwards.  However students will get a taster for Media Studies in Lower School English and subject ambassadors will be working with our upper school students on the Newsletter.

The curriculum gives students the opportunity to examine an industry that is held responsible for everything from youth crime to the results of elections.  It is also a key factor in any business or job role.  Students discuss key media debates like how body image in adverts or violence in computer games affects the audience.  This will give you an insight into how the media influences and impacts on everyday life and help you learn how to produce your own media products/texts.

The course offered to students is the BTEC Tech Award in Creative Media Production.  This is a vocational course that is 100% coursework although there is a controlled practical assessment unit which is for 40% of the final grade.  Full details for the course can be found on the Edexcel website here http://qualifications.pearson.com/en/qualifications/btec-tech-awards/creative-media-production.html
