Admissions

As an Academy, Newfield School is its own Admission authority.  However, Newfield has chosen to retain the Local Authority's admission arrangements since it became an Academy on 1 May 2014.  Applications for admission are handled by the Local Authority Secondary Admissions Team.  They can be contacted at 5th Floor North, Moorfoot Buildings, Sheffield, S1 4PL.  Tel: 0114 273 5790.

The closing date for expressing preferences online is 22 October or 31 October if returning a paper application form.  Parents are notified of the school that their child has been allocated on 1 March.

The indicated Admission Number of Newfield School is 210 per year group, this is the number of places available in Year 7 for 2017.

More details can be found on the Local Authority website at https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/education/information-for-parentscarers/pupil-admissions.html

Admission Appeal Timelines

Appeals for entry to Year 7 in September 2017 will be administrated by the Local Authority on behalf of the Academy and in line with the statutory Appeal Code of Practice. Appeals will be heard at the Sheffield Town Hall. The closing date for the submission of appeals is 29 March 2017. Parents will be advised of the exact closing date and appeal procedure when they receive notification of the outcome of their application on 1 March 2017. Appeal Application Forms can be obtained from the Local Authority or dowloaded here where you can also find guidance about the process.

You will be notified of the date and time of your appeal in writing by the City Council. Schedules will be determined after the closing date for receiving appeals. Year 7 appeals for those submitted on time are normally concluded before the Spring Bank half term at the end of May or in the first two weeks of June. Please note that the appeal panel is independent of the Academy and the Local Authority and its decision is legally binding on both the Academy and on parents For any further advice on the appeals process please contact the Admissions Team on 0114 273 5790 or email ed-admissions@sheffield.gov.uk

A useful appeals timeline can be found in the downloads section to the right.

Sheffield City Council have provided the school with the following information that we would like you to be aware of. No action is required if you are happy with your option choices here at Newfield.

Atypical Admissions

The Government is keen to ensure that parents and students are fully informed of other opportunities that might be available at times other than normal transfer points. This is to alert you to the fact that there are local schools with atypical admission age in the area within reasonable travelling distance, these being two University Technical Colleges (UTC) who take students at Year 10 and Year 12, parents and students may apply for admission to the UTCs.  Both schools are still accepting applications for September 2017.  Please follow the link below to learn more about both schools and how to make applications.

Arrangements for 2018-19

Any parent who is refused a place at Newfield School will be entilted to appeal to an independent panel.

Further details about this process will be provided in the decision letter.  Following the national allocation date on 1 March 2018 a closing date for the submission of appeals will be published, normally towards the end of March. Appeals are scheduled by the Local Authority on behalf of the Academy and those that are submitted on time are normally heard in April and May, before the Spring Bank half term.  Appeals that are submitted late will be scheduled after this date.
