At Newfield School all our students should are provided with personalised careers guidance (with 1 to 1 personal careers interviews in Years 10 & 11) which will allow them to make informed choices at all key transition points. This will ensure they are supported and prepared for the next stage in their post-16 training or employment. Our careers provision aims to provide all our students with the necessary skills they will need after leaving Newfield School which will help support them on their chosen career pathway.

The Gatsby Benchmarks provide a structure for our careers provision and an overview of this framework can be seen in our Careers Policy. To measure the impact of our careers provision, our Careers Leader completes The Careers and Enterprise Company's (CEC) Compass Plus online self-assessment tool every term and regularly seeks feedback on events and activities from stakeholders through online platforms. Newfield also works alongside the CEC's Enterprise Adviser Network to help build links with local employers and employees and enhance the careers related learning experience of our students.

Sheffield Progress

Sheffield Progress is used in school by Y11 students to explore post-16 courses and submit online applications to providers. The site can be accessed to research post-16 courses without needing to log-in by clicking on the 'Courses' tab.

Career Pilot

This website is very user-friendly and provides a wealth of easy-to-access information on both post-16 and -18 transition and longer-term career options. There is a dedicated ‘Parent Zone’ that helps parents and carers support young people in making informed decisions about their future.

National Careers Service

The National Careers Service website provides in-depth information for over eight hundred jobs and also provides the opportunity to complete an online skills assessment to help match a person’s skill set to a range of jobs and careers that may be of interest.

UCAS

An excellent website that can be used to explore jobs and careers in a wide range of sectors.

Prospects

Although focused more on post-18 options, this is an incredibly useful site that provides a wide range of information in a very user-friendly format.

Unifrog

Unifrog brings all the available information into one comprehensive, user-friendly platform that helps students make the best choices, and submit the strongest applications. The platform supports students with the whole progression process - from exploring their interests, to recording the great things they've done, to finding education and training opportunities, to drafting their applications.

Provision in School

Y7 - Students are introduced to careers through Personal development lessons, use of the Unifrog careers platform, education routes by visiting both Sheffield universities.

Y8 - Students are introduced to careers pathway through Personal development lessons, use of the Unifrog careers platform, education routes through assemblies from Sheffield college, workshops led by visiting Sheffield universities.

Y9 - The options process for Key Stage four forms a large part of the Y9 curriculum, HEPP deliver group sessions and workshops to Y9 students. Use of the career platform Unifrog, FE assemblies / apprenticeships.

Y10 - Detailed information given around the different post 16 routes, 6^th form, college and apprenticeships, students attend sessions ran by HEPP and Sheffield college and use of Unifrog careers platform. All students receive an impartial careers interview with a qualified careers advisor from Sheffield Futures.

Y11 - 6^th Form, College and apprenticeships options are explored through Personal development sessions along, use of the Unifrog careers platform with their application to Sheffield Progress. All students receive an impartial careers interview with a qualified careers advisor from Sheffield Futures.
