Mercia Learning Trust

Our school is proud to be part of Mercia Learning Trust – a group of schools in Sheffield working together to provide the very best education for local children.

What is a multi-academy trust?

A multi-academy trust is a group of schools that work in partnership. All our schools are part of one charitable organisation – Mercia Learning Trust – which is directly accountable to the government rather than the local authority. This gives us greater freedom to do what works best for our schools and communities, while remaining publicly funded and held to high standards.

Who are we?

Our trust includes primary and secondary schools. Each school is led by a headteacher, with support from our trust leadership team and a local governing body. Furthermore, each school has its own unique identity; however, we are united by a shared mission:

To empower everyone in our communities, especially the most disadvantaged, to succeed.

This mission drives everything we do, from the way we support and challenge our schools, to how we invest in staff and buildings.

What does this mean for you and your child?

We expect all our schools to align with our mission and values to ensure that every child receives an exceptional education.

To achieve this, we insist that each school has:

  • an explicit ethos and culture of high expectations and inclusion.
  • behaviour of the highest standard.
  • a meticulously planned curriculum, which is consistently well delivered by teachers every lesson, every day, to every child.
  • a robust culture of safeguarding.
  • a thorough and inclusive personal development strategy.
  • leadership at every level who are focused and driven by the right priorities.
  • rigorous internal and external quality assurance.
  • a culture of continuous improvement.

How do we support schools?

We expect our schools to relentlessly focus on the components of highly effective schools, to develop and share best practice, to follow agreed trust quality frameworks (such as curriculum, SEND, and safeguarding), and to engage in partnership and trust-led improvement strategies. We encourage schools to move towards alignment where this improves quality and effectiveness.

  • A focus on excellence – every child is entitled to a high-quality education, and we work hard to make sure every school delivers just that.
  • Support from experts – our central team provides specialist support in teaching, safeguarding, SEND and more, so school leaders and teachers can focus on teaching and learning.
  • Efficient operations – central services like finance, HR and IT are run by our trust, freeing up leaders’ time and resources for what matters most.
  • Strong professional development – we help staff grow their skills and careers, which means your child is taught by passionate, expert professionals.
  • A strong, values-led culture – we are committed to kindness, integrity and diligence, and you’ll see these values in action every day at school.
  • Investment in the future – we reinvest in buildings, technology, and learning environments to make sure children and staff have what they need to thrive.
