Catering
School meals at Newfield are currently provided by Taylor Shaw.
Taylor Shaw catering meets all government healthy school guidelines. They actively work with the School Council to have interesting, tasty and varied menus.
Pupils can choose from a range of hot meals that vary daily. Alternatively, pupils can have a hot pasta pot with a choice of toppings, jacket potato with a range of toppings or a range of sandwiches, paninis, pasta salad boxes, baguettes and a variety of hot and cold drinks. For those who prefer, we do have spaces for packed lunch.
Hot meal menus rotate on a three weekly cycle with week one being the first week of term. Sample menus can be found below.
Taylor Shaw operate a cashless catering system. Pupils have a personal account that they can load money on to in order to purchase food and drinks. Pupils who are entitled to free school meals will have the value of a daily meal loaded automatically each day prior to lunchtime. It is recommended that you look at this process and speak to your child about what they may buy throughout the week.
We also introduced Biometrics as a means of paying for purchases. Biometrics measures an individual’s physical features and stores it in a database. At Newfield, fingerprints are scanned. Once a finger scan is authenticated, access to the pupil's cashless catering account is granted which allows pupils to update their food account and pay for snacks/meals at break times. This means they do not have to carry cash and their account is secure.
Biometrics and Security
Pupils, parents, carers and staff can rest assured that:
- The fingerprint image cannot be used by any other organisation for identification purposes
- The system only uses an image of the fingerprint to create a mathematical algorithm and then discards the fingerprint
- Only the numbers remain on our system and these cannot be converted back in to a fingerprint image
- The record will only remain on Newfield School’s system whilst the pupil is on roll.
Fingerprint imaging is purely voluntary. Pupils can also opt to use the biometric system.
